Heather D. Hurd

Description

Meet Dr. Heather Hurd, a licensed psychologist with a decade of experience in improving the lives of children and families. Dr. Hurd completed her doctoral degree in Educational Psychology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, a program that is highly ranked and APA-approved, with a minor in Counseling. She also completed her predoctoral internship at the University of Wisconsin Waisman Center and Memorial High School. Later, she completed her postdoctoral residency at Silver Psychology Center in Fort Myers, Florida, and her postdoctoral fellowship in public policy at the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP) in Bethesda, MD. Currently, she is an active member of the Wisconsin School Psychology Association and National Association of School Psychologists, where she serves on the Assistance to States committee to improve the operations and structure of state organizations.

Throughout her clinical career, Dr. Hurd has worked with children and young adults of all ages, as well as their families, in various settings such as private psychology practice, hospital interdisciplinary clinics, schools (elementary and high school), and university settings. Her clinical approach is a blend of theoretical views including ecological, cognitive-behavioral, and socio-cultural. She considers the biological and neurological factors, environmental factors, social and cultural contexts surrounding the child while assessing and diagnosing. Dr. Hurd's approach is based on evidence-based research, and she uses outcomes-based measures and progress monitoring regularly. Dr. Hurd believes that with the appropriate support, all children and adolescents can grow, learn, and succeed, even when faced with life's challenges.
