Adult Autism Services for Oakland and the East Bay

If you’re an adult in Oakland or the broader East Bay and you’ve been exploring whether autism might be part of your experience, I’m here to help. I’m Kenneth Roberson, PhD, a licensed clinical psychologist specializing exclusively in adult autism, and I provide assessment, therapy, and couples counseling to East Bay residents via secure telehealth.

Why Adults in Oakland and the East Bay Seek Autism Services

The East Bay is home to a diverse community of professionals, creatives, educators, and activists — many of whom value authenticity and self-understanding. That cultural emphasis on being genuine can make the experience of masking — of performing a version of yourself that doesn’t quite fit — feel especially painful when you start to recognize it.

Many of the adults I work with from the East Bay describe a growing awareness that something about their experience doesn’t match what others seem to find normal. They’ve often done significant self-research, read about neurodivergence, and are looking for a professional who can provide a thorough, evidence-based assessment rather than a quick screening.

The Bay Area has a strong neurodivergent community and a culture of openness around mental health — but finding a provider who specializes specifically in adult autism assessment and therapy can still be challenging. Telehealth connects you with that specialization directly. Whether you’re in downtown Oakland, Berkeley, Walnut Creek, Concord, or anywhere in Alameda or Contra Costa County, you can access focused, expert care without commuting across the Bay.

FAQs

Do you serve all of the East Bay?

Yes. I serve adults throughout California via telehealth, including all of Alameda County, Contra Costa County, and the broader East Bay region.

Is a telehealth assessment as comprehensive as in-person?

Yes. My telehealth assessments include the same clinical interviews, standardized tools, and detailed reporting as in-person evaluations. The format is different, but the depth and rigor are identical.

I've already researched autism extensively on my own. Is an assessment still worthwhile?

Absolutely. Self-research is often an important first step, and many of my clients arrive well-informed. A professional assessment provides clinical validation, a detailed report you can use for support and accommodations, and often surfaces patterns that self-research alone doesn’t capture.
