Researchers at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia have developed a method for measuring the quality of life for individuals on the autism spectrum.
The tool, called PAB-L, consists of questionnaires that evaluate physical and mental health, relationships, and subjective well-being. The study involved 912 participants of all ages on the autism spectrum, and the findings were published in the journal Autism Research.
The questionnaires provide a valuable starting point for assessing the quality of life of individuals with autism and address gaps in previous methods by including data on women and girls.
The study also highlights that women and teenage girls with autism experience higher levels of anxiety and sleep problems compared to males. The research lays the foundation for further understanding and supporting the quality of life of individuals with autism.
